While I generally prefer snorkeling from the shore as well, a boat trip to Molokini is definitely worthwhile. Great snorkeling – though best to get there early in the day to avoid all the other folks boating over as well. Wish I could add a “F” for it. :-) But if you switch to “map” mode and go a bit NE of Kahoolawe towards Maui you’ll likely spot it….

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve added Molokini. I haven’t actually made it out there, but I know many who have and it’s on my list next time I head to Maui. Note the satellite view doesn’t show the crater but map view does. So it should be at the right spot.

My favorite snorkeling experience has been renting a kayak from Makena Landing and paddling a bit out then up and down the coast. The water is a lot less choppy off the shore, there are plenty patches of coral, and, since less snorkelers are around, it’s easy to spot those turtles!
