Established in 1976, the Kolkatta Book Fair is now the third largest in the world. In 2007, it was moved from the Maidan to Salt Lake Stadium in order to handle the million-plus visitors to the 12 day event. The festival overlaps with the traditional Hindu festival of Saraswati Puja. Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of learning, and books are worshipped on that day!
