The Rheinenergie-Stadion (a.k.a. Müngersdorfer Stadion) is home ground of the city’s major soccer team, 1.FC Köln (also called the Billygoats).

The club was formed in 1948, in a merger of two local teams. 1.FC K%uFFFDln has won three championships, including the inaugurating Bundesliga championship 1964 (the others were 1962 and 1978) and four German cups (1968, 1977, 1978 – the double, 1983 against local rivals Fortuna K%uFFFDln, the only cup final to oppose teams from the same city).
