Carlsbad Caverns National Park actually contains 113 caves, most of which formed not from water flowing underground, but sulfuric acid dissolving the limestone. The eponymous Carlsbad Caverns are well developed for tours. Lechuguilla Cave, whose entrance was found in the park’s backcountry in 1986, is currently the world’s fifth-longest known cave.
