Often called ‘two parks in one,’ Wind Cave National Park contains both one of the world’s longest caves and extensive aboveground prairie and ponderosa pine forest. Wind Cave, with its unique boxwork formations, was the first cave in the world to be protected as a national park. At the time of my visit it was the world’s fourth longest known cave, in terms of total length of surveyed passages.
