Celebrating its twentieth anniversary as one of the nation%u2019s leading youth ensembles, the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony presents an exciting evening of original music for wind ensemble and concert band. The program features Giannini%u2019s Symphony No. 3,%u201D John Barnes Chance%u2019s %u201CIncantation and Dance,%u201D and special guest Richard Stoltzman performing %u201Cwundeliguhi (the darkening land) by Emory faculty member Richard Prior. Led by Emory’s director of wind studies Scott Stewart, the AYWS is the premier youth wind symphony for high school youth in the Atlanta area, drawing the finest wind band performers from more than 50 high schools in 15 counties. The ensemble performs at Emory; tours domestically and abroad; and commissions, premieres and records new compositions. Stoltzman, the preeminent jazz, classical, and new music clarinet player. Stoltzman is credited with expanding the range of clarinet repertoire. Nebraska-born Stoltzman holds a BA in math and music from Ohio State University and a Master of Music from Yale and is the first wind player to win the Avery Fisher Prize (1986). Stoltzman is an Emory Coca-Cola Artist in Residence from October 17-21, 2007.
