Art of the Boys & Girls of Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley

Soldier’s Barracks Gallery October 12 %u2013 November 1, 2007

Among the many inspiring programs offered at this club are art classes in all disciplines. These once a week classes began about a year ago in order to create a positive environment encouraging creative exploration. These classes end with a juried show where the young artists are offered the opportunity to win first, second and third place prizes in various categories (such as photography, painting and mixed media). This year%u2019s show was juried by volunteers, board members, and friends of the Club, including: Mozelle Sukut, Jess Herrera, Brian Chichi, Peggy Jaffe and Rosemary Conn.

The winning pieces were sent to compete in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America%u2019s National Fine Arts Exhibit, a juried show made up of artists from Clubs across the country. Back in August, winners from this competition were then recognized by board members and city officials. To commemorate the honor, a plaque was presented by Dana Point Mayor, Diane Harkey.

We hope that you will come to visit these truly gifted artists and view their work while it is showcased here at the Mission during the month of October, in honor of National Arts and Humanities Month. The show will begin with a free public reception on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. u2013 8:00 p.m. in the Soldier%u2019s Barracks Gallery at Mission San Juan Capistrano. This reception will give visitors the opportunity to meet some of the young artists (and their proud families), as well as allow guests to learn more about our local Boys x%x Girls Club.
