Kinnickinnick State Park

created by  mcghiever

Description

This small state park preserves the mouth of the Kinnickinnick River at its confluence with the St Croix. Oddly, however, the road and trail system don’t provide much access to the namesake tributary. The park is day-use only to those who arrive by land, but boaters get a special perk. They can camp overnight on the sandy river delta. The name ‘kinnickinnick’ comes from from a Native American term for tobacco mixed with other herbs. Tobacco, a southern crop, was a rare commodity in the upper Midwest, so it was usually mixed to extend the supply.
