Description

I stopped at the strangest tourist trap, called South of the Border, on my way from Wilmington to Atlanta.

It’s a Mexican-themed tourist trap in South Carolina, just south of the North Carolina border. Let me repeat that. A Mexican-themed tourist trap. In South Carolina.

Yeahhh…I had to buy a $14 disposable camera to prove to myself I wasn’t hallucinating.

There was a drug store called “El Drug Store,” several giant statues of Pedro, a Mexican man with a bushy moustache and Sombrero, a miniature golf course called “Golf of Mexico,” an observation tower with a sombrero on top.

It also had random gorilla statues. I can only assume because there was an Africa store.

Because gorillas aren’t native to South Carolina OR Mexico.
