The Lions of Batucada are Portland’s own Samba Bateria – a marching percussion ensemble playing the syncopated, African-influenced dance music of Brazil.

Styled after the legendary Escolas De Samba in Rio de Janeiro and Blocos in Bahia, the Lions were founded in 1996 by Brian Davis, Derek Reith and Andrew Hartzell. We have since grown to a membership of about 40 drummers and dancers and continue to grow!
