The new rink in Torino is divided on 5 levels with outbuildings towards the Piazza d%u2019Armi Park. In addition to hosting best part of the ice hockey matches, the venue will also host the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, acting as the backstage for the entry of the athletes prior to the official parade, and will also host the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Paralympics.
After the Olympics the rink will be used as a multipurpose structure (ice rink, indoor sports, concerts, shows, conventions, congresses, exhibitions, large events, performances, religious gatherings, etc). It is a versatile structure thanks to the mobility of the internal partitions.
The new ice rink, the reconstruction of the Stadio Comunale and the rearrangement of the surrounding area were the subject of an international design contest that was won by a group headed by the architect Arata Isozaki of Tokyo
