The Pentagon is in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River was Washington, DC. It is the world’s single largest office building.
When the capital of the United States was moved to Washington, the District of Columbia was a square shape including much land in Virginia, including most of what is now Arlington. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington,_D.C. In 1846 the US government returned the Virginia portion of the District of Columbia to Virginia. Why do you think the US government did that? Would it have been better to keep all the original 100 square miles?
The Pentagon was built in the 1940s as the headquarters for the United States military. Can you find out where the headquarters was before this?
Looking down at this map you can see Arlington National Cemetery. Whose plantation was this before the American Civil War? You can also see the Jefferson Memorial. What other monuments can you find? Can you find the US Capitol? The White House?
