“With the League authorities demanding higher standards for club facilities, Ron Povey, the incumbent chairman, took the long-term view that emphasis on developing the club would serve it better than short-term gain on the field. The trees were planted and the wall around the pitch erected. Other chairmen continued the good work, but the majority of the improvements that led to the coveted “A” grade were made under the driving leadership of Pat Bennett. Under his watchful eye the cover on the around the pitch was constructed, along with later additions such as the cabin for the match officials. The chief visible additions to the club, though, were the wooden fence around the ground, the function room, the all-weather pitch and the concreting of the car park, but improvements to the lights and the drainage also demonstrated the club’s desire to improve and modernise."
