Background
Originally built to host the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but completely rebuilt and revamped from 2000 to 2004.
Due to its history, the stadium is an all-purpose ground, also including a running track around the football pitch. This track is painted blue and white, because this are the club colours of the city’s major team, Hertha BSC. During the club’s doledrum years in the 80’s and 90’s, when it was forced to spend some seasons in lower divisions, other local teams rose to short-lived prominence, most notably Tennis Borussia and BW Berlin which also played some of their home games here.
The Olympiastadium also hosts the annual Cup final, both in men’s and women’s soccer.
