The Westfalenstadion was once considered to be the most safe and modern stadium in Europe – several clubs, e.g. Scotland’s Glasgow Rangers, adapted the design for their home stadia. It underwent several renovations and currently is the biggest soccer stadium in Germany (and the stadium with the biggest average attendance). It’s capacity has to be reduced for international games, because UEFA and FIFA regulations require all-seater stadiums.
It’s the home ground of Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany’s most popular and most successful teams in recent years. The club is in a bit of turmoil, though, because huge debts almost drove it into bankruptcy.
