In the afternoon we rolled in to a small community with a general store. We were looking for a rest and something cold to drink. We also met Steven Wat sitting at the picnic table studying an Adventure Cycling map. Steven is a Professor of Mathematics at Marymount Manhattan College in NYC. He was west bound, heading for Chicago and maybe beyond. We tried to give his some route ideas to get across Michigan.

We also warned him about the detour that we had encountered that morning. Being cyclists, we figured that we could ignore the detour signs and simply walk our bike around any obstacle that would prevent a car from passing. About two miles past the detour sign we found an 8 foot high fence constructed in such a way that we could not get around, over, or under it. So much for that good idea.
