It’s been converted to fancy condos, but this was at one time New York’s Police Headquarters. There is still a gun shop nearby, to supply the police with their side arms, nerve gas, tasers, bulletproof vests, NYPD tee-shirts, souvenir foam beer coolers, etc. Lots of stories about the building - there’s supposed to be a secret (ok - not secret) underground passage from a nearby bar, there’s a time capsule somewhere in the foundation that the current management company refuse to dig up, and the place is supposed to be haunted. The best rumor (but totally unsubstantiated) I heard concerns the cupola. Apparently in 1988 when the building was being renovated workers found a enormous bird’s nest which filled the entire dome. Evidence, apparently, not of giant Roc, but of a set from the golden age of film which got left in place.

As I said, I can’t find a single reference to this or anything like this, so I’ve either revealed a secret about the building, or somebody lied to me.
