My mother really wanted egg custard tarts. So we walked from SOMA to Chinatown. We walked into a random store and asked the clerks where to find egg custard tarts. They immediately answered, “Jin men… they’re expensive but it’s worth it.” That’s what the people waiting in line outside the bakery told us too. There’s often also a long line. And the store people can be hard to deal with because they’re so busy. All the trouble is worth the tender egg custard and the miraculously flaky and light pastry. There’s no room to sit here, but what’s more fun than walking around Chinatown eating delicious egg custard tarts? Oh yeah… “expensive” means $1 for one tart.
