Butt of Lewis Lighthouse

created by  ranger

Description

Built in 1862 by David Stevenson, the uncle of Robert Louis Stevenson. The lighthouse has a very unusual and attractive red sandstone tower which stands at 121ft high. Parking is available but no access to the buildings is permitted. The cliffs around the lighthouse are a great place to watch for seabirds such as gannets and fulmars.
