Description

Official – Bretagne (Breh-tahn) (Français)
Other – Breizh (braahz) (Brezhoneg)
Other – Bertaèyn (behr-tahn) (Gallo)
Status – A Department of République Française
Citizens – Brezhons (breh-zahn)
Capital – Rennes (rehn) (Française), Roazhon (Brezhoneg), Resnn (Gallo)
Language – Français is the only official language, Brezhoneg (Breton) is widely used in signage and as a cultural symbol. Brezhoneg is a Celtic language, closest to Welsh. Gallo a “Langue d’Oil” is a remnant of the Old French of the north of this culture area and is less used.

Brezhoneg is also spoken in the Department of Pays-de-la-Loire. There is a political push to rejoin all the Brezhoneg culture areas into one politically unified French Department.

Why French? – République Française believes absolutely in the idea of a lingually-unified state.
