F1 – All Mining, All the Time
Travel to the Old Lead Belt south of St. Louis with Art Hebrank, mining historian. Planned stops include the Doe Run Smelter in Herculaneum where lead has been smelted since 1892; the Bonne Terre Mine, a still-active and privately-owned site; and the Missouri Mines State Historic Site, once the largest mine-mill complex of the St. Joseph Lead Co. where operations ceased in 1972 and the 19,000 sq. ft. powerhouse now serves as a museum.
