The site has a secondary smelter. This means they can take CRTs!! The CRT on your desk (or in the garage) has a couple pounds of lead in the glass. Fortunately, silica is an input to the smelting process. VOILA! they can recycle the lead, avoid the cost of buying high quality sand, and produce lead and non-toxic slag. SWEET!

Description

F1 – All Mining, All the Time

Due to construction at the Doe Run Lead Smelter at Herculaneum, the current plan is to visit the Doe Run Resource Recovery Division. This is a recycling facility that takes in lead-acid batteries and other lead bearing waste, and produces lead ingots.
