California State Railroad Museum

is the most visited RR museum in the US. It has a large collection of rolling stock. The museum operates steam driven (usually) trains along the river as the Sacramento Southern during summer weekends.

The musuem library is an internationally recognized resource for RR history.

The museum recently opened an “overlay”, We’ve Been Working on the Railroad. It is a series of maniquins, new signage and new interpretive materials highlighting the human side of railroading.
