Dunwoody, GA Painting
I am a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL, with a BS in Management Information Systems. I was born and raised in the small town of Toxey, Alabama. Coming from a small town, I wasn%u2019t exposed to art much, other than the drawings that I created. Growing up, I worked mostly in pencil on white copy paper. My favorite subject is and always has been people, mainly women. After I graduated from college in May 2003 and started working in Atlanta, GA (my current residence) I decided to paint. My first painting was a self portrait. I quickly found that painting came easy to me, and I felt more creative. I%u2019ve been painting ever since. I work with acrylic paint on canvas. I%u2019ve never taken an art class, so any technique I have was learned by studying other artists%u2019 work, or through trial and error. I%u2019ve sold quite a few paintings since I first started, mostly portraits. I feel that I am slowly developing a style of painting that is inspired by music, women who celebrate their sensuality and quite simply, love of life. I%u2019m interested in people who enjoy the simple things in life, such as truly listening to music, savoring the richness of a donut, or feeling a breeze on their skin and I try to portray that in my work. I like to paint image of people with elongated arms and necks, with either exaggerated or no facial features. I mostly use bright primary colors in my work. Artwalk will be my first official public showing. I view this opportunity as a learning experience and a chance to put myself out there for others to see.
