Drawing and Painting
One%u2019s personal history is constructed of life experiences and memories, and these combined, weave stories both real and imagined. These stories create the complex structure that feeds the perception of who we think we are and what we believe we are not. This body of work explores time, place, memory and the depth of human experience.
We know our intimate spaces well. They are stored in our bodies and engraved in our minds. The private, domestic space reveals the awkwardness and the grace of the human form. It is a peephole to the absurd and the vulnerable. My examination of the body engaged in repetitious gesture presents itself in the form of a storyboard or doodle page. The storyboard structure inhabits the crude animation within a set of both architectural and painterly space. Through the process of painting out and drawing back in, these habitual routines build the surface history; mistakes, secrets, and all. These are the rituals that we perform each day and they become the basic organization of our existence. These are the actions that occur in-between; the subtle gestures that reveal who we are.
These daily routines are the moments that fill in the gaps, the cycles that maintain the flow of life and can be come like survival skills in a time of crisis. These simple narratives present a familiar view of one%u2019s most intimate moments and reveal our most human nature.
