Oil Painting
Most of my paintings are on stretched canvas, but I also paint on wood and metal. Before I begin a piece I start by building up thick textures on the surface and usually work on a black background. I often use sand and small pebbles in my gesso along with heavy coats of black oil paint. Sometimes I use collage before applying the oils, usually for text. The painting I do on canvas are wrapped around 2%u201D thick frames that I build. I also make frames out of used, weathered boards for the pieces that I do on wood. When I paint I apply the oils very thick on the surface that gives the pieces a lot of texture.
I paint on a very personal level and all my pieces are original. The inspiration for my paintings is life. I write poetry all the time and often include my poems in my pieces I paint as I see things instead of how the really are, using color and expression to create the mood.
Shows that I participate in include Kentuck, MCAC, Fairhope Art Festival, Four Bridges in Chattanooga, Artclectic, and Bluff Park. I also show at several galleries including Naked Art, Willis Gray, Renaissance Art Gallery, and The Arts Company in Nashville.
