Specializing in fine art photo-impressionist images of nature, I strive to create a final image that blurs (and, in some cases, breaks) the lines dividing photography and the other forms of 2-D art such as painting and pastels. Utilizing various techniques such as intentional blurring, panning and multiple exposures, I am able to produce images that seem much more painterly than traditional %u201Csingle-shot%u201D photographs.

I have always found nature to be an inspirational subject for my photographs and until recently, I focused on grand-scale landscapes and seascapes. This winter, upon winning the North American Nature Photography Association’s college student scholarship, I traveled to Colorado to meet with many of nature photography’s top pros and discuss the business of being a nature photographer. To my dismay, many of the pros described a long, hard journey for any photographer with the sole intent to photograph nature and make a living at it. Almost every person I met with said, in one way or another, that one must differentiate his/her work in order to be able to succeed in such a competitive market.

Therefore, on my return from my trip, I began to focus on the fine art aspects that I had earlier practiced and have worked ever since to perfect my techniques. Naturally, I have not perfected my techniques to the point at which I would feel completely satisfied with the finished product, but I have gotten to the point at which I know my works are far from what the majority of other photographers are producing. In addition, I am satisfied in knowing that my works have created a signature style all of their own, thus giving myself a name in the fine art world.

As an accomplished photographer, I have set out to study the techniques of such great masters as Monet, Seurat, Matisse and others, and I am working on teaching myself how to capture images photographically that compare well to the masterpieces of such masters. Throughout the year, I have worked on a project, Natural Impressions, which portrays many of the stylistic elements of Monet in the style of the great images he created while working at Giverny. I am currently preparing for a series of images that will culminate in a collection of impressionist water lily photographs much like the canvases he created with the same subject matter.
