Glass
I grew up in a small town in upstate New York in the foothills of the Alleghany Mountains, spending much of my time outdoors observing nature. Not far away was the Corning Museum of Glass. This was where I first fell in love with glass. I proceeded to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology%u2019s School of American Crafts where I earned a Bachelor%u2019s Degree of Fine Art in Glass Sculpture and Glass Blowing. I have also studied at the Museum and the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.
Upon graduation, I moved to Birmingham to blow glass at Bear Creek Glass. I now coordinate the Hot Shop and oversee all hot glass production. I also operate my own glass flame working studio, Blue Sky Glass.
I draw inspiration form the infinite realms of life to galaxies of far away to the depths of the deep blue sea. I create sculptures combining the techniques of glass flame working and glass blowing. I am energized by the essence of a moment of serenity and fulfilled by its beauty. During the creation process, I reflect upon such moments through meditative thought recollection while dancing with hot glass and fire. Contemplating the experience, I transform objects, thoughts and emotions into poetic creations.
