Photography
I recently graduated with a BFA in Photography from Jefferson State University. I have studied under many teachers and Nuns in different fields of the arts since the 1970%u2019s. I%u2019m primarily interested in black and white images done in the traditional wet dark room, working with a variety of techniques, including superimposing images and hand tinting. Though I am slowly beginning to explore digital, I%u2019m really interested in keeping the older techniques alive.
When I photograph something it feels like making magic. My inspiration first came from Ansel Adams as a master technician in the black and white field of photography, especially in his depictions of the American West. I identify with something he once said: %u201CIf a day goes by without me doing something related to photography, it%u2019s as though I Have neglected something essential to my existence.%u201D
My work is currently on exhibit at the Gadsden Museum and I recently exhibited at the Peddling artist show in Anniston. I have participated in many local, regional, and national competitions, winning numerous awards for my photography. I have lived in Alabama for 15 years and will be opening a business, Cindy%u2019s Photography and Fine Arts, in Jacksonville this fall.
