Mosaic/Mixed Media
I began my career in mosaics in 1998 because a dear friend of mine suggested that I should %u201Clearn to do something with my hands.%u201D From that time, my world has been a whirlwind of wonderful chaos. I am a self-taught %u201Cfolk mosaic artist.%u201D I use very colorful, ceramic tile which is all hand cut and applied to my %u201Ccanvas%u201D which could be wood, concrete or terracotta. I have developed a new style for me using ceramic figures found at local flea markets and yard sales. I use various parts of the figures to create a three dimensional piece which often takes on a life of its own. Many of my pieces are darkly humorous. Several of my pieces have an animal or religious theme. I have designed two large wall murals; one is an outdoor bus stop in North Carolina and the other is at the entrance of Shades Mountain Elementary School. I also had a garden bench that was on display at The Birmingham Museum of Art. I show year round at Naked Art Gallery in Forest Park, and I have exhibited at Magic City Art Connection for six years. I also have participated in Artwalk for the past four years. I run Wacky Nanny Art Camp for kids in the summer and when not working on mosaics, I am a nanny in the Forest Park area. I hope to continue to hone my artistic abilities for many years to come. Mosaics have become something I truly enjoy.
