Blastism is the term I choose to describe my current art work. I explore the characteristics of expressionism, surrealism, futurism, supercomicism, lowbrow art, pop art and abstract art. My art work has a unique style with eye candy elements like bright vivid color, tricky dimensions, and twisted perspective. I paint a wide range of subjects that include robotic stick figures, tweaked out pets, female forms, space cruisers, landscapes architecture and still life. The study of form, mass, structure, color theory, and story element are important aspects of my work.

I paint with oil and acrylic on a variety of surfaces: canvas, wood, polystyrene foam, and collage. I like working on skewed and shaped panels. Some of my work includes sculpted three dimensional elements and multiple panels that can be interchanged to create new compositions or characters.

I got my start in the visual arts in the late 80s, drawing promotional flyers and t-shirt designs for punk rock bands. This was the basis for an education in graphic design and also led me to painting. I started out as a self-taught artist and have now studied visual arts at Northeast State Junior College, Athens State University, the University of Alabama and Jackson State University (BFA painting, 2004).
