One of the island’s bigger cities, the old capital (before it moved to nearby Santa Cruz) and home of the island’s only university. On a bad day, it may seem a bit run down and shoddy, but it does have some of the oldest houses and palaces on Tenerife, the oldest church and lots of other places of interest. As a university town, it also has a rather friendly atmosphere, compared to the commercial hustle-and-bustle of Santa Cruz.
