Although not a designated station, the Elkhorn Tavern was a popular stop for Butterfield stages. Today, the rebuilt Elkhorn Tavern can be seen by visitors to the Pea Ridge National Military Park and the old Butterfield route can be walked northward. The site was also the scene of the largest Civil War battle west of the Mississippi.
