Icod is famous for two things: The oldest Dragon tree on the island (in fact not a tree but a species of lily), and the annual wine festival which takes place every November.
Sadly, this year it was cancelled due to the aftermath of the Delta storm – however, we saw a couple of kids rejoicing in the local custom of skidding down the steep slopes of the city in makeshift little soapbox carts.
Icod also has a very beautiful Franciscan church with a little museum (which is home to one of the most beautiful silver crosses I’ve ever seen) and impressive wooden altars. Also do take a stroll around the old city: Lots of beautiful old houses there, with the typical wooden Canary balconies.
