Yes, it’s a mainstay for tourists. But so what? Truth is, Alcatraz is a blast. The boat ride is fun unto itself, and the audio tour of the former prison is superb. Don’t be deterred by the cheezy Alcatraz t-shirts that litter Fisherman’s Wharf, but DO make a ferry reservation beforehand to ensure you can go at your preferred time.
