This is the Mount Collins Campground (night 1 with a short ~4.5 mile day). It requires reservations and can be high traffic especially during the summer. This trip is planned for the early spring season before the wildflowers when there is low foot traffic in the park. This is a shelter only campground. You must sleep in the shelter and no tents are allowed. This is to keep this popular area low impact.
For those that like solitude this is a good place in the early spring/late fall but definitely not during late spring, summer, or early fall. You tend to find a lot of AT hikers here in the spring coming up from the south as well as normal Smoky Mountains hikers.
